I took these photos at a rally held in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia, around a month before the 2010 midterm elections. President Obama gave a speech intended to rally his fellow Democrats for Pennsylvania-area races; on hand was senatorial candidate Joe Sestak, gubernatorial candidate Dan Onorato, and a number of other Pennsylvania politicians. Vice president Joe Biden also appeared, as did the Philadelphia-based hip-hop group the Roots. This post features T-shirts which reflect a celebratory mood regarding Obama's election as the first African-American president.

Outfest Philadelphia 10-10-10 Part 2
I took these shots at Outfest, an annual street fair held in Philadelphia's "gayborhood" (located in the area around 13th street in Center City). This post features T-shirts sold by various street vendors at the festival. They display a mixture of social and personal messages about LGBT identity and politics.

I took these shots at Outfest, an annual street fair held in Philadelphia's "gayborhood" (located in the area around 13th street in Center City). Members of the crowd wore T-shirts which addressed a range of issues, including LGBT pride, gay marriage and adoption, and the military's "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy.

Gay Pride Fest NYC 6-28-09 Part 2
I took these photos at the 2009 Gay Pride parade and street festival in New York City. The event was held on June 28th, about seventh months after the Proposition 8 vote in California and five months after the Obama inauguration. During the summer of 2009, New York governor David Patterson and the state legislature were pushing for a same sex marriage legalization bill; however, the bill failed in a Senate vote in December of that year. This is the second part of a series.
